Mylene Farmer doesn't like to talk about herself and she hates when her private life is invaded. Anyway, in order to try to understand the personality of this "Daughter of the Moon", we subject her under a list of adjectives. ENIGMATIC: "Mystery is an integral part of my personality. I don't cultivate it. Even to my closest friends, I think I'm being enigmatic to the degree that I don't reveal them all my thoughts." EGOCENTRIC: "That is because of the title of my latest album AINSI SOIT JE. One must not misunderstand it, I've wanted to make a statement. It's like I'd say: "Voila, I'm presenting myself, this is how I am." In college I was perhaps egocentric, I wanted to be the centre of interest, for to be recognized. I have horrible memories of the school. The authority of the professors revolted me, their power to say whether one essay is good or bad. It weren't the marks which shocked me, it was above all their appreciation." INVULNERABLE: "No, I'm not invulnerable. Right now, when it comes to a completed work, like the album, there I am sure of myself, because I've a very, very good team around me. The same that for my first LP. All the world knows that Laurent Boutonnat is by my side, how he composes my songs and realizes my videos. He's the person who knows me best, even better than my mother certainly." OBSCENE: "When I appear nude in a video, I don't call it obscene, because it's in precise context with the story. When I go to buy underwear I'm very modest. For instance, if the seller stands behind me I feel very uneasy. I prefer to be alone. In the lyrics one can perhaps talk of obscenety. On my first album I sing the texts that are written by Laurent. It was like singing my own words, but the ones written by me, they are different. The thing which blocked me before was the idea of revealing things too personal. I'm beginning to overcome that fear on my latest album. The lyrics of the songs are all mine with only two exceptions. One is a reprise of DESHABILLEZ-MOI, the other is an adaptation of a text by Charles Baudelaire." OBSERVING: "I love to observe people, without being forced to make comments about them. It's a pleasure. On the album there is one song which was inspired by observing others. It's the one called JARDIN DE VIENNE. It's a story about a person I knew. A french boy who hanged himself in one of Vienna's public gardens. I found his gesture extremely romantic." CHILDISH: "It's true that it's hard for me to extract myself from the childhood. I believe that I can never be anywhere else. The thing which I like in children is their cruelty, which is very disturbing. They are forgiven, because it's said how the child is innocent. I don't believe they are." MATERNAL: "To have children, I've no envy nor worry. But I have maternal feelings for my close ones, my friends, my pets. I have two monkeys. One is called E.T., he's short and round. The other, Leon, is a baby of the same race but not from the same country. He's a bit more naughtier than E.T." STRANGE: "I don't think that I'm something strange. I prefer sad things, those which are from cinema or from literature. I did not have a sense of humor at all before. Now, I'd say that I have a little, or more exactly how I am cynical. There are things which make me laugh. Not Zouc (who appears in the SANS CONTREFACON video). I've seen her show three times. She rather makes me to grind my teeth and cry, but she's fascinating. No, what makes me laugh are my monkeys." SPENDTHRIFT: "Absolutely not. It's maybe because of my upbringing. I never had lack of money and I didn't like throwing it out of the windows. The only thing to which I like to spend money are the shoes. I have twenty pairs of them - all with low heels, because I can't walk with high heels - but if I could I would have fifty pairs of them." ANDROGYNE: "I don't play with the androgyneity. It's a question of physic. In one part of my life, I thought that I was between the two sexes. When I was very young I was always mistaken as a boy. I was told how nice a name "Mylene" was for a little boy." SEXY: "I don't know. I leave the choice for you this one time." GOURMAND: "Yes! I devour candies, sweets and cakes. The candies I prefer are those which are most chemical. They don't make them as chemical as in my childhood. When I was little, I remember buying those horrible things, red, pink and bitter ones." REDHEAD: "My mother has red hair, so when I changed the color of my hair from brown to red, it wasn't against nature. Blonde? Surely not. By pure lucidity, I would never want blond hair, but color of rose? maybe..."
